Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is a concentrated solar thermal plant in the California Mojave Desert, 40 miles southwest of Las Vegas, with a gross capacity of 392 megawatts. The facility formally opened on February 13, 2014, and it is currently the world’s largest solar thermal power station. Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm is one of the first large-scale wind farms installed in the U.S.
This area hosts a multitude of wind farms, comprising one of California’s largest wind resource areas. These initiatives and other great ideas are helping to decentralize the power grid and reduced its carbon footprint. And the pace of change is accelerating worldwide.
